At Evolve, we offer dry needling as part of our physical therapy treatments to help alleviate muscle pain, improve mobility, and accelerate recovery. Dry needling is an advanced technique that uses a thin, sterile needle (without any medication or injection) inserted directly into muscle tissue, targeting tight, restricted areas known as trigger points. This technique is often referred to as intramuscular manual therapy, and it’s proven effective in treating various conditions, from chronic pain to post-surgical recovery.
What is Dry Needling?
Dry needling involves inserting a needle into the muscle to stimulate a healing response and “reset” dysfunctional pain patterns. By addressing tight muscle fibers, this technique can reduce pain, improve range of motion, and promote better muscle activation. It’s particularly effective in treating conditions such as muscle spasms, tightness, and injuries like whiplash, tendonitis, or even post-surgical rehabilitation.
When is Dry Needling Recommended?
Dry needling is beneficial for any area where there is muscle tightness or restricted movement. It’s an excellent treatment for muscle spasms, reduced range of motion, and muscle imbalances that may be contributing to pain or dysfunction. Our physical therapists, who are specially trained in this technique, use dry needling to help reduce discomfort, improve strength, and increase range of motion—all to support your recovery and help you move better.
Is Dry Needling Part of My Physical Therapy Session?
At Evolve, dry needling is often incorporated into your physical therapy treatment plan, but it is billed separately as an additional service. If you are interested in dry needling as part of your physical therapy visit, just let your therapist know so it can be included during your session. If you prefer to receive just dry needling, we also offer standalone 30-minute dry needling appointments. Simply call us to schedule a dry needling session if that’s the only service you are seeking.
Who Can Perform Dry Needling?
Only physical therapists who have undergone specific training and certification are authorized to perform dry needling. At Evolve, our therapists have the advanced credentials and experience necessary to safely and effectively use dry needling as part of your care plan.
